About us

The Kwon of Q.U.I. Dragons were formed in the 1980's in Richmond, Virginia.

The Kwon of Q.U.I. Dragons were formed in the 1980's in Richmond, Virginia, by James R. Chance and company.  James R. Chance also known as "Chance", was born on May 4, 1952, in Greenville, North Carolina. Born in the Year of the Dragon 1952, Chance became involved in Jujitsu.  At the age of twenty-six, Chance became a Master martial artist teaching celebrities, Law Enforcement, Military, and eventually became a body guard. In his thirties, he taught 210 plus students at one time in Richmond with his senior instructors and other Martial Arts icons involved.  Chance taught each of us according to our personalities, but we resembled one another as mirror images. Q.U.I. meaning is "Quality-Universal-Input".  Ever so often Chance would disappear from Virginia for two months. at a time.  After returning home to Virginia, Chance would return with more knowledge for the Young Dragons.  Chance had earned the rank of Grand Master -9th Dragon in Gung-Fu. James R. Chance "Chance" talents inspired the Young Dragons to succeed in life.  Chance was a singer and songer writer with the Dells, Jimi Hendrix, and even trained Lenny Kravitz in Gung-Fu.  Chance was a member of The Gladiators formed in the 1970's with the famous Afro's, singing styles, jumping abilities and kick boxing skills that won many titles and street fights. Chance was well known from the United States to foreign countries.

Hello, my name is William Nelson. I am a Q.U.I. Dragon and Master Instructor for over 37 years. I am one of the many who has knowledge and training in Gung-Fu and many Martial Arts styles.  I started in 1980 at the age of twelve and I am now in my fifties. I am the originator of the Dragons Gung-Fu Club. The skills that was learned followed this Young Dragon to the United States Marine Corps as an (MAI) Martial Arts Instructor, Police Department, and now opening my Dojo "Kwon" or House of Instruction.  In the Marine Corps, this Young Dragon traveled to Okinawa, Japan, where I fought in the 1995 Okinawa Olympic Style Kumite--2nd Place representing the USA. My students "Marines" and I were recognized by the Grand Master of The Yakuza Clan, because of Grand Master Chance -9th Dragon.  I am a proud recipient of The Martial Arts Hall of Fame 2013 in Arizona and Kuro Bushi Martial Arts Hall of Honors 2014 in Concord North Carolina.

I would like to thank all of those who I connected with, trained with, and instructed from the USA to Okinawa, Japan.

Family Blessing;

In early 1990, I had the pleasure of meeting Master Chance and his phenomenal Instructors William Nelson and Mark Divens. They are Master Teachers and carry out the training sessions on a weekly basis. The first thing that I noticed was that they were in the tip-top physical condition and were totally committed to training the community. My experience was such that my entire family of six children and I were invited to join the organization. We attended weekly classes and learned from the best. Chance trained us physically and imparted spiritual knowledge as we grew in the art.

This aspect of the art presented itself to each of us as we learned the intricate moves of the anatomy of punches and kicks in the most simplistic ways. Hard work and practice were the cornerstones of his training. Being fit was the result of your hard work. The "Love and Commitment" Master Chance showed to people is the greatest lesson that I carry today as an example to follow. Chance was amazing. From Pine Camp to Hotchkiss Field Recreations, for years, we trained and Chance never charged my family and me a dime! All of my children feel confident and secure in life today as a result. They walk without "Fear" anywhere on this planet, because of his Masterful Training. We as a family are teaching our young the knowledge and training of Our Extraordinary Teacher, "Master Chance". As long as we continue to teach his knowledge, Chance will "Live Forever"!!!

RIP Master Chance

You Were Everyone's Blessing.

You Instilled Pride And Courage Through Your Skills.

Long Live The Masterful Art of The.......Q.U.I. Dragons
